Over the last 10 years Coughing Dog Music has released a number of well received recordings most of which are available here. Specalising in local [Shropshire] folk musicians, with some compilations of English Ceilidh bands. Each of the recordings below have their own pages - please click on the pictures or the headings.
This CD represents English singing at it's finest - 16 unaccompanied songs about which Rod Stradling says:
"There can't be more than a handful of people in the country who can sing the old songs in a way which is utterly convincing - Chris is one of them. This CD has everything: passion, drama, history, humour...vividly communicated with great skill. Lots of splendid songs you'll not have heard before, and even the well-known ones are in unusual versions. This is an absolutely admirable release".
All Blacked Up have been at the top of the Englisdh Ceilidh scene for 20 years are areone of the bands that are mentioned as being 'influential'.
This is their third recording and demonstrates what a great band they are with new tunes, new versions of traditional tunes, singing to dancing and much more.....
Alistair Gillies [owner of AGP Studio] is well known on the folk scene for carrying around his soprano sax on the search for a good session.
This is his second 'solo' CD and combines solo sax, harmonies, counterpoint, sax sections and all sorts of self indulgence that he can't usually get away with in his bands.
Alistair's first CD which being 17 years old demonstrates the error of putting your face on a CD cover.......
Having said that it is one of the very few CDs that explores traditional music frommhe point of view of a sax player.
O'Carolan's Concerto is 14 of Turloch O'Carolan's tunes arranged for fiddle, saxophone and mandolin with occasional guitar accompaniment. The late Jon Hayward was a respected traditional fiddler with his own solo CD and Alistair Gillies runs AGP Studio and has established himself as one of the countries leading 'folk sax' players through his solo CDs, his work with ceilidh band All Blacked Up, Pipe Factory, Fidget Pue and running workshops on 'playing wind instruments for dancing' at major festivals. This CD will be of interest to those who wish to learn some Carolan tunes - both well known and more obscure, as well as people who are interested in the music of Ireland.
This CD is now only availale on iTunes- see CD page
Anne Lennox-Martin became well known on the folk scene through working as part of a duo specialising in music hall songs, and damn good she was. After a break in her professional singing career she moved to Shropshire with new material and this is the core of this CD. With a new band comprising of established folk stalwarts this is a highly entertaining CD.
