English Ceilidh Bands: "A celebration of English Ceilidh Music" Two tracks from each of these great bands:
ALL BLACKED UP are based in Shropshire and play dance music that is
firmly rooted in the English tradition, combining original and
traditional tunes. ABU feature melodeons, saxophone, harmonica, guitars,
keyboard and drums.
FLORIDA come from Kent and combine trumpet, sax, guitar, bass and
melodeon in a unique fusion of jazz/folk rock/latin/swing. Tune sources
are mostly English trad, plus original compositions by guitarist/fiddle
player Gavin Atkin.
Sheffield 6-piece HEKETY have been playing festivals and dance clubs
since their 1997 formation, winning audiences over with their vibrant
energetic performances. Both tracks are from their eponymously-titled
2001 debut E.P.
JABADAW are from Manchester and were formed in 1994. Rooted in English
and French traditions with a full colour contemporary sound they play
uplifting Anglo-European grooves at ceilidhs, bals, festou-noz and
concerts everywhere.
RANDOM - 'electric ceilidh music with guts' - their earthy yet
sensitive, melodic, folk-rock interpretation of tunes with traditional
roots creates scintillating ceilidh music that will make you want to
dance. They say that they come from 'Free Wessex'.
WHAPWEASEL are a fixture on the national festival circuit, picking up
immediate repeat bookings with impressive regularity. Wherever their
unique blend of folk, rock, ska and jazz takes them they set new
benchmarks for excitement, innovativeness and sheer danceability.
